Hi all,

It’s me, the artist formerly known as MagzDragon. :) I thought it might be nice to change my name here on the forum to something less… draconic! :D I’ve been using Myfanwe for a long time online and it is known very well around the internet and I think it’s time to embrace it here as well. No more hiding behind the dragon.

It’s actually a Welsh name meaning “My rare one” and I adopted it after someone told me I am a rare one on another forum years ago. I think it is extremely appropriate!

The way I pronounce it is mih-FAN-wee but have also heard it said My-FAN-wee.

According to the baby names website it is pronounce mih-VAN-wee so I guess any of those is fine. :D

Dear Poster-Formally-Known-As-Magzdragon,

I like the the name change! Could you recommended a welsh name for a short kid with a love of lima beans?

I’m trying to find a cute name to call my nephew.

Yours in Christ,

Raul

The word for small/little in Welsh is Bach (with the ch sound pronounced like it is in Loch Ness) or Bychan

The word for bean is ffeuen

I’m not sure of the syntax but it is either Bach/bychan Ffeuen or Ffeuen Bach/Bychan = little bean.

Dearest Meg,

Thank you so much! Now one last question and I promise to stop pestering you about it: How do I pronounce “ffeuen”?

Yours In Christ,

From my very small knowledge of Welsh, I would think the Ff is said like an English F so Ffeuen is said like a properly pronounced English “When” and would sound a bit like fwenn. I am not a native speaker of the Welsh though. Just have some Welsh relatives and friends.

Yet you are so knowledgeable on the subject! Thank you, Meg. You have broadened my horizons this day and for that I am most grateful.
